Regenerating soil health is the least-known, most promising solution to climate change. Who would have thought that the food we eat could help restore the climate and regenerate ecosystems?

To achieve large-scale restoration and climate mitigation, what is needed is a systemic change involving us all: citizens, farmers, land managers, consultants, businesses, researchers, non-profit organizations and decision makers. What role can you play in regenerating soils?

Come learn, exchange and connect with others who have the health of our soils and environment at heart. To learn more about our speakers and program, please visit the Living Soil Symposium 2019 website.

Life of a Craphead

Dazibao is pleased to announce the inauguration of two new public billboard works, located on the façades of Café Cherrier and the Bonsecours Market.

An off-site extension of our exhibition programming, dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary image practices, Dazibao satellite aims to stimulate discussions around current social issues and the integration of art into everyday life.

Dazibao is excited to be presenting $100 Bill With South Asian Scientist Added Back In, a work especially conceived by the artist duo Life of a Craphead for Dazibao satellite. With these two impressive images, the artists revise and reimagine the history of the $100 Canadian bill.

In light of recent changes made to the new $10 Canadian bill, which features for the first time a racialized Canadian historical figure, Viola Desmond, the artists revisit a 2012 controversy around the potential design of a new $100 Canadian bill. The original design, presented in 2012, included the depiction of a scientist. However, after having supposedly received a number of critiques vis-à-vis the scientist appearing too “Asian-looking,” the design was changed in favour of a more “ethnically neutral” (meaning White) depiction ― an incident which solicited a formal apology from the Bank of Canada.

Applying the critical approach and frank yet understated humour that is often seen in their works, the artists have re-rendered what they imagine the rejected 100$ bill might have looked like, in order to bring to discussion the under-representation of minority groups in the landscape of the Canadian imagery. At the Bonsecours Market, a larger-than-life sized $100 bill undoubtedly catches the eye. But upon closer inspection, you might notice that something is indeed different; that is, only if you are lucky enough to be familiar with the bill or if you have one in your pocket! At Café Cherrier, the variant detail is magnified for us to see: a South Asian scientist replaces the white one. The difference is subtle, and yet it incites us to interrogate the multiple ways in which power is exercised, especially through an object so highly sought out.

The Old Montreal Antiques Show

Top of Page

© Anna Boyiazis,
Liberté retrouvée dans l’eau

The 13th Montreal edition of World Press Photo, the most prestigious annual press photography contest, will present the 135 prizewinning images of its 2017 edition as well as complementary exhibitions and activities at Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. The exhibition is presented daily, from August 29 to September 30, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Complementary exhibitions to World Press Photo Montreal

Photos dans la rue

The Photos Dans la rue exhibition is the result of a photo workshop project for homeless or at-risk youths. Photographers Alexandre Lepage and Alejandra Ariza organized and ran this project in collaboration with Monica Mandujano, a psychosocial counsellor in charge of the art workshop at Dans la rue’s day centre. During these workshops, which were carried out over many months, around thirty youths explored their creativity and developed their confidence. Through their gaze and the lenses of borrowed cameras, they produced portraits and captured moments of their daily lives in Montreal, which will be exhibited in Bonsecours Market’s mezzanine space.

Regards by Oxfam-Québec:

For a seventh year, Oxfam-Quebec has partnered up with World Press Photo Montreal to present its Regards exhibit, which will highlight 45 years of achievements by women in their fight for equality around the world.

Outlook and encounters by Alexandre Champagne
At the end of January 2017, and profoundly affected by the attacks on the Great Mosque of Quebec City, Alexandre Champagne launched a crowdfunding campaign. In mere days, he raised over 50,000 dollars. In the process of forging close ties with the community, he used his camera to document the aftermath of the tragedy from the perspective of victims and their loved ones. A handful of these images will be presented for the very first time in the mezzanine space at Bonsecours Market.

Radio-Canada: The power of information
ICI RDI invites you to discover the work of Radio-Canada’s foreign correspondents through their own eyes. From Rohingya refugee camps to the crisis in Catalonia, the exhibition casts a new light on a number of events that have dominated recent international headlines. Also on view will be reports produced by RAD, Radio-Canada’s in-house journalism laboratory.

La Presse+:  Determined to bounce back

On August 9th, 2008, 18-year-old Fredy Villanueva was gunned down by police in Montreal North. The incident ignited a series of riots the very next day, led by angry youths. A decade later, La Presse now offers a glimpse into what Montreal North has become. The story is told through the lens of a basketball team, whose young players don’t have it easy. Neither on the court, nor in life.
The Planète+ :  Increase your televisual quotient

In an era where digital platforms offer documentary lovers a vast selection, Planète+ is banking on its quality programming to kindle the curiosity of Quebecers.
The public is invited to take up a challenge by participating in a quiz inspired by the network’s programming. A playful way to increase your “televisual quotient”.

Partners of the 2017 edition
Oxfam-Québec, ICI RDI, La Presse+, Newad, Planète+, La Vitrine culturelle,, Urbania, Publicité Sauvage, L’Itinéraire, SDC Vieux-Montréal, Maison de la Photo de Montréal and UQAM. Global partners: Canon and Nationale Postcode Loterij.

2016 Congress - AAPQ (Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec)

Les Rurbains - Rurban - Rethinking the Boundaries of Landscape

April 1st and 2nd, 2016

A major environmental design event in Québec, the AAPQ’s annual Congress will again this year host speakers, panelists and artists from Québec and abroad to explore a topic that is both complex and inspiring, and that revolves around the issues faced by environmental design professionals.

While the agricultural population in Quebec accounts for just 1% of the total population, and while teleworking makes many professionals independent from major centers, the importance of territories multi-functionality is increasingly recognized, one can observe how several major cities worldwide are declining and how the role of the landscape architect and design professional is being redrawn and is becoming more complex.

Rurban imagines the borders between rural and urban landscapes by exploring interstices landscapes, hybrid and reversed, which while seeking to redefine themselves, carry a history and local culture that need to be asserted in this renewed reality.

An exhibition hall bringing together the network of suppliers connected to environmental design will be accessible for $25 from 10:00 to 15:00 on Friday, April 1st.
